What qualifications do I need?

School Chaplains are required to have as a minimum a Certificate IV in Youth Work or Pastoral Care (or designated equivalent). This qualification must include CHCCCS016 Respond to client needs and CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues. Degree or diploma-qualified candidates in education, social work, psychology, welfare, youth work or ministry will be highly regarded.

Generate Chaplains are also required to;

Hold a current Working With Children Check number
Agree to abide by Generate Terms of Employment Contract & Code of Conduct
Have completed or be working towards, a theological or ministry qualification.
Hold a current church based child protection training

Pastoral Care Qualifications

I have a Diploma of Theology or Ministry, or higher qualification, from an Australian Theological College that includes PC452 – Chaplaincy Skills

I have a Diploma or higher qualification from an Australian University in Education, Psychology, Social Work or Counselling.

I have a Certificate IV in Youth Work or Pastoral Care that contains CHCCCS016 Respond to client needs and CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues.

I have a Certificate IV or higher from the Community Services Training Package under the Australian Qualifications Framework that includes CHCCCS016 Respond to client needs and CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues.

I have a qualification listed as an accredited course by the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA) and the qualification contains an accredited sequence of psychology units (E.g. a Bachelor of Arts may be acceptable if it has a psychology major).
